That kind of versatility comes from a host of features that make Johnson four-strokes the best-in-class. Four-cylinder, in-line, single overhead cam power plant for smooth power on the 60 and 70 HP models; digital sequential multi-port fuel injection for excellent throttle response and fuel economy; the Johnson pulse-tuned manifold for truly inspired acceleration; solid state ignition for sure starts; and power tilt and trim for greater performance and control.

The 50 and 40 HP have the same list of outstanding features but use a powerful 3-cylinder, in-line, dual overhead cam power plant. It’s never been so easy to befriend an outboard.

Propeller: The propeller that comes with your new outboard (supplied with 40 HP and smaller models) is designed to give you the best performance for the majority of applications and uses of that outboard. For special applications or uses, your dealer will help you select a propeller that may be different from the one that comes with your motor. On models through 40 HP, you can, at the time of purchase, exchange the propeller that came with the motor for another prop of similar value. For models of 50 HP and larger, as well as for special needs, a wide variety of props are available at extra cost. A full line of SSTII (15"-23"), Raker®, Viper™ and Renegade® propellers are available for counter-rotation models.
Maximum Boat Horsepower: By law, most outboard boats up to 20 feet in length must carry a plate certifying the maximum horsepower permitted under U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
Fuel Facts: Use unleaded automotive gasoline with an octane rating equal to or higher than 67 pump-posted for 25-30 HP models, 87 pump-posted for 40-175 HP models. Using unleaded gasoline that contains methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) is acceptable ONLY if the MTBE content does not exceed 15%. Using alcohol-extended fuels is acceptable ONLY if the alcohol content does not exceed 10% ethanol or 5% methanol and 5% cosolvents (for further information see your Operator's Guide).
Note: Please follow the lubricant information in your Operator's Guide. Evinrude/Johnson XD25 formula outboard oil is recommended for Johnson outboards.
Warranty: A full statement of the coverage terms and conditions applying to the Johnson outboard Limited Warranty has been furnished to Johnson dealers for inspection at the point of sale and is included with the Operator's guide furnished with each motor.
